Read this before root

The uncomfortable
questions.

An autonomous LLM with root access is a serious experiment.
Here is what you are actually signing up for.

The bet is that faster response can reduce exposure. That is a hypothesis, not a proven safety result. Firefighter can make your situation worse.

03

Why the hell would I run this?

Because we’re in an unprecedented time: security holes are being found and exploited too fast for individual humans to react. This is a bet that an LLM with unrestricted access is less of a risk than a server left unpatched for more than a few minutes.

04

Will it ask before making changes?

No runtime approval prompts. Everything happens automatically. It sends reports to your configured output and keeps local audit logs.

05

What about prompt injection?

It’s a real risk. Advisories, logs, and code can manipulate the model; a system prompt doesn’t solve that. Local observations go to your model API, and secret redaction is best effort.

06

Can the central site tell my server what to do?

The central site only broadcasts vulnerability notices. Your LLM, running in the Firefighter harness, decides what to do.

07

So backups make this fine?

Fuck no. Keep independent backups and test restores. Root can delete backups it can reach, and restoring files won’t undo stolen data or credentials.

08

Will it detect every breach and rotate every key?

No. A clean scan or successful patch cannot prove the server wasn’t compromised. Key rotation only covers the hooks you configure.

09

What does running this cost?

You pay for your client’s model API usage and server resources. Busy investigations can get expensive. The shared hub currently uses official sources, which are mirrored for free.

10

Who is responsible when this goes sideways?

You own the consequences. Firefighter comes as is, without warranties. To the fullest extent permitted by law, its authors and contributors accept no responsibility or liability for loss or damage caused by its use.

Still here?

Then go in with your eyes open.

I understand the risks and that this might delete my entire server.
